Self Storage in Germany 2025 - Prices, Sizes & Leading Providers

Germany’s self storage market continues to grow as demand for flexible, secure, and affordable space rises across all major cities. Based on The Storage Scanner’s latest dataset (collected 9 October 2025) and covering all facilities within a 15 km radius of each major metropolitan area, Germany counts over 1,100 professional storage facilities operated by more than 370 active providers.

Across the country, the average unit size is 11.25 m², with an average monthly rent of €228.13, equivalent to €20.29 per m².

This puts Germany among Europe’s mid-range markets in terms of pricing. In terms of size, the German market is the 4th in Europe, after the United Kingdom, Spain, and France. Large average unit sizes suggest that suburban and garagebox facilities still dominate, even as compact, urban “micro-storage” concepts are expanding fast.

Why People Rent Self Storage in Germany

Several everyday realities explain why more Germans are turning to storage space:

Finally, Pick-Up & Delivery (P&D) models - where providers collect and return items - are reshaping the market. Boxie24 and SaveSpace are currently the largest P&D players in Germany, catering to customers who prefer not to transport goods themselves. Their growth reflects a broader shift toward tech-enabled, on-demand logistics.

Market Overview (as of 9 October 2025)

Below you’ll find detailed insights for Germany’s main urban markets, ranked by facility and provider activity. All figures represent unique unit types - one record per combination of facility, size, and price - to ensure statistical accuracy.

Germany (National Overview)

Germany’s national averages show a balanced market with moderate pricing and larger unit sizes than in most European capitals. Prices are notably higher in urban centers, particularly in Munich, Stuttgart, and Berlin, where limited real estate and strong demand drive € per m² up by 30–50%. The German Self Storage Association (Verband Deutscher Selfstorage Unternehmen e.V.) represents the national industry and promotes high operational standards, transparency, and security across certified facilities throughout Germany.

City-by-City Overview (15 km radius)

Berlin

Berlin is Germany’s largest and most dynamic storage hub. Prices per m² are roughly 30% above the national average, reflecting the city’s density and residential constraints.
