This Privacy Policy explains how The Storage Scanner V.O.F. ('TSS', 'we', 'our', or 'us') collects, uses, and protects personal data of individuals and businesses ('User', 'you') who use our website, platform, or related services to compare, search, or obtain information about self-storage providers.
By accessing or using our platform, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to this Privacy Policy as well as our Terms & Conditions and Cookie Policy.
Who We Are
The Storage Scanner (hereinafter: 'we', 'us', or 'our') is an online comparison service for renting storage units near you. Our website enables users to search for available storage spaces, compare prices, and find suitable storage with a third-party provider.
Our services are provided by The Storage Scanner V.O.F., a general partnership registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce under number 96900210, with VAT number NL867823938B01 and based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. We are the data controller for your personal data as described in this Privacy Policy.
What Data We Collect
We collect and process personal data both directly (from users) and indirectly (via third-party service providers used for analytics, advertising, hosting, performance monitoring, or lead fulfilment). The following categories of data are collected:
- Lead form data: When you submit a lead form to contact a storage provider, we collect the following information: name, city, email, phone number, intended start date, required storage size, expected duration, reason for storage, optional comment, and a timestamp. Depending on your inquiry and selected interests, this data may be forwarded to (i) the initially selected storage provider, (ii) other nearby storage providers if the first provider does not accept your lead, and/or (iii) other relevant service providers such as moving companies or insurance companies if indicated by your request or selection.
- Click data: When you click through to a provider's website or contact link, we collect the timestamp, IP address, and IP-based geolocation for internal validation and fraud prevention.
- Technical data: IP address (hashed and stored securely), IP-based geolocation, browser type, device details, operating system, and cookie data. This information may be collected directly by us or automatically by third-party analytics, hosting, and advertising tools (such as Google Analytics, Google Ads/AdSense, Meta Pixel, LinkedIn Insight Tag, and TikTok Pixel) to support performance monitoring, attribution, and campaign optimization.
- Identification and communication data: Name, email address, or other contact details if provided during direct communication (e.g., via email, support, onboarding, or customer service requests).
- Usage data: Search queries, filters, browsing paths, interaction patterns, and UI actions (e.g., search terms, selected unit sizes, price filters, sort options, provider profile views, page depth, and navigation events). Usage data may also be collected through service providers for analytics, attribution, and performance measurement.
How We Use Your Data
We process personal data for the following purposes, either directly or via trusted service providers acting on our behalf:
- To operate and improve our storage comparison and marketplace platform.
- To forward your inquiry to the selected storage provider and, if the provider does not accept your lead within a defined period, potentially also to up to five (5) nearby providers so you have a higher chance of securing storage.
- To forward relevant details to other service providers such as moving companies or insurance companies when you indicate interest or consent (e.g., by selecting relevant options during the lead submission process).
- To analyze website performance, understand user behavior, and improve user experience. For example, analytics and advertising partners (such as Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, LinkedIn Insight Tag, and TikTok Pixel) help measure engagement, conversion, and campaign effectiveness.
- To verify leads, clicks, and usage activity to ensure validity, prevent fraud, and resolve disputes with storage providers and other service providers regarding lead origin or quality.
- To display relevant and localized offers based on approximate IP geolocation, query parameters, or browsing patterns.
- To ensure proper functioning, security, and performance of our platform via hosting, CDN, email infrastructure, and performance monitoring services.
- To comply with legal obligations, respond to lawful requests, and pursue legitimate business interests such as reporting, accounting, and dispute resolution.
Sharing Data with Third Parties
We share personal data only where necessary to deliver our services:
- With storage providers: When you submit a lead form, your form data (name, city, email, phone, start date, size, duration, reason, comment, timestamp) will be shared with the selected provider so they can contact you directly. If that provider does not accept your lead, we may share the same data with up to five (5) nearby providers. IP addresses and geolocation data are not shared with providers, except in hashed and anonymized form upon written request for fraud or lead verification.
- With other service providers (e.g., moving companies, insurance companies): If you request or consent to being contacted for moving services, insurance services, or related ancillary services, we may share relevant lead information (such as name, city, contact details, storage size and duration, intended start date, and optional comment) with trusted partners so they can provide offers or follow up. These providers do not receive IP addresses or geolocation data unless explicitly stated and justified.
- With technical and analytics providers: We work with trusted external partners for hosting, email delivery, analytics, advertising, and performance monitoring. These include (but are not limited to) Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Google AdSense, Google Ads, Meta Pixel (Facebook & Instagram), LinkedIn Insight Tag, TikTok Pixel, CDN and hosting infrastructure providers, and transactional email providers. These partners may process data such as IP-based geolocation, device information, cookies, usage patterns, and attribution metadata on our behalf.
- Internal verification: For all clicks and lead events, we log timestamps, IPs, and IP-based geolocation strictly for internal validation and fraud detection. This data is securely stored and only accessed when necessary.
- Legal obligations: We may disclose data if required by law, in response to regulatory requests, or in cases involving suspected fraud or abuse of our platform.

These tracking tools collect aggregated information about your interactions with our website, including page visits, conversions, and device information. This data helps us measure traffic sources, optimize advertising performance, and display relevant ads on social media platforms.
